Hidden for over a century, Le dernier sorcier is a true operatic treasure. Written by Pauline Viardot with a libretto by Ivan Turgenev, it tells the story of Krakamiche, a once mighty sorcerer whose arrogance has thrown the forest into disarray. As the fairies and their queen fight to reclaim their home – love, wit and a little magic bring the old sorcerer face to face with humility.

This chamber opera is light on its feet but rich in meaning. Its melodies are elegant, its characters full of life and its themes surprisingly modern. The Festival brings this rediscovered gem to the stage, letting its gentle humour and vibrant music cast their spell on a new generation.
