Outreach and Educational Work
Our Outreach and Educational Work
We love introducing classical music to people and environments that do not normally benefit from what we can provide. We strongly believe that classical music does not belong solely in concert halls and should be experienced by all in the ways that engage them best. We have delivered interactive workshops and presentations in primary and secondary education as well as care environments and sessions for both adults and children with special educational needs and disabilities.
As both individuals and as an ensemble we are trained and have experience in music education, and share a passion for using the string quartet to allow all kinds of people to get a hands on experience of what we do. Leda is pursuing a Professional Certificate with Dalcroze UK. She has experience teaching Rhythmics, singing, improvisation and violin for the Junior department of the Royal Northern College of Music (8-12 yo) and New Virtuosi residential violin course in Oxford (8-24 yo), as well as delivering Dalcroze inspired workshops for Pendle Community Orchestra (mixed age group) and Sandbach Strings (8-18 yo). Chris’ current musical outreach work is mostly with Sinfonia Viva and the Aestus Quartet. With Sinfonia Viva he has focus on working with adults living with Dementia and Neurodiversity, as well as having worked teenage asylum seekers. Beth works with the Royal Northern College of Music’s Young Strings department helping to deliver Kodaly and Dalcroze teaching to KS2 aged string players, she also spent a year working with the Music in Secondary Schools Trust to help provide free musical instruments and music lessons to KS3 students in Greater Manchester. Alec learnt the cello through the Suzuki method, and has since completed the first level of the Suzuki teaching qualification. Passionate about spreading music to the next generation, Alec has also taught in music festivals across England and given outreach sessions in schools for children of all ages.
We have previously collaborated with Lake District Music Festival, Winchester Chamber Music Festival, and Festival Ravel to create exciting and interactive events in the UK and France. We are thrilled to have an upcoming collaboration with the Chorlton Arts Festival where we will be bringing this work to our hometown, Manchester! You can find out more about this event at our ‘See us live’ page.
